Design Challenge
Frame Your Design Challenge
1) What is the problem you’re trying to solve? Take a stab at framing it as a design question.
Solve hunger in the Central PA area and general PA
Getting people to donate money rather than food to the bank without sounding like they are begging or just asking for money. Getting the community to understand that the dollars go further in helping provide meals for people in need than the donations of food.
More funding toward the food bank to help with the high demand of people in need due to rising living costs, inflation, and the post-pandemic era leading to higher food insecurity.
How can we encourage more people to donate without blatantly asking for money to help with the high demand of people suffering from food insecurity, especially nutritious food insecurity?
2) Now state the ultimate impact you’re trying to have.
Easy access to nutritious food for all people
3) What are some possible solutions to your problem? Think broadly. Starting a project with a hunch or two is fine, but make sure you allow for surprising outcomes.
free food
cheaper food
nutritious food is accessible for all classes of people
affordable things in general
living wages
4) Finally, write down some of the context and constraints that you’re facing. They could be geographic, technological, time-based, or have to do with the population you’re trying to reach.
Only so much the food bank can do
Money helps them the most but it can be difficult to ask people for money
They have 3 locations to reach as many people as they can but there will still be people that aren't in the range of this food bank or any others if they are in a rural area.
5) Does your original question need a tweak? Try it again.
How can we effectively encourage more community members to donate money to help meet the high demand created by food insecurity? Without sounding ungrateful of other contributions like volunteering and food donations.
